Pouliot & Company give Post 334 a final game win in the Gopher Classic
Lefty Doug Pouliot, with help from Ian “Hoss” Andrews and Bruno [Joe] Brinda, parlayed their talents into a 9-0 victory for Post 334 in the fourth round of the Gopher Classic July 11 over the West Fargo American Legion Baseball Club.
Because a major storm hit shortly after the game, washing out the field at Bethel University and the remaining fifth-round games on this Sunday afternoon – including a match-up with the Rosetown Legion squad — Post 334 finished the tournament with a 2-2 record.
Pouliot, meantime, finished with his third win of the season, a two-hit shutout that included just one strikeout. Two double players, one started by Brinda at third and another by Sammy Smith at second, helped out when the game was close.
Complementing the pitcher was Andrews, nicknamed “Hoss” because of his Ponderosa demeanor and physical shadow. He had a monstrous tw0-run homer in the third and a two-run double in the fourth. Brinda also came through with a key two-run double with two out in the first inning when Post 334 established command of this contest with a 3-0 lead. Later, Brinda had another run-scoring double to cap a three-RBI afternoon.
