Rain let up and so did the drought
Both the rain and Post 334′s losing streak ended July 7 with a hot day — figurative and literal — afternoon and evening on the baseball field.
After losing seven straight games in the Post 22 Firecracker tournament the previous week in Rapid City, the Post 334 team came finally got back to playing at home (following a day of rain) to beat Ham Lake 7-4 in a four o’clock make-up game at Wintercrest West. Following this win and a quick trip south to the newly upgraded St. Anthony High School stadium, Post 334 then beat Tri City Blue 9-3 to jump back above the .500 record for the season with a 10-8 record.
In the opening game during the heat and high humidity of the day, Post 334 right-hander Joe Brinda turned in a complete game for the win. Brinda, who was a tough-luck loser in the opening game of the Firecracker a week before to Eden Prairie. scattered eight Ham Lake hits while striking out six. He was supported at the plate by catcher Mike Latta and designated hitter Luke Hite, who both went four for four and shortstop Tony Remund, who had three hits in four at bats.
In the second game, Hite took the mound and went 5.2 innings before giving way to Dougie Pouliot, who closed out the game with three strike outs. Latta, meantime, collected three more hits and three RBI for a 7-for-8, 6-RBI day. Remund added two more hits, including a two-run homer, and five RBI in the game.
