Cody Beam set for elbow surgery
Hard-throwing right-hander Cody Beam, who pitched for the Central Arizona (JUCO) team this past spring, has concluded his season with the Post 334 with one appearance and one win.
Beam, who beat Westphal Armstrong June 22 at Wintercrest West, is preparing for early August elbow surgery to remove a bone spur that developed after an arm injury sustained during the spring of 2009. The bone spur started to cause soreness after his only summer start and subsequent bull-pen session last week.
The problem was confirmed by noted Twin Cities Orthopaedic surgeon, Dr. Daniel Buss, who has been treating Beam for nearly two years.
Beam, one of the top high school pitchers in Minnesota his senior year until he suffered the initial elbow injury in late April of 2009, missed all of last summer’s Post 334 season resting his shoulder and elbow, but was able to play as a freshman with the Central Arizona team this spring. He played a full season for Post 334 in 2008.
