Post 334 was KO’d in eight
Despite a strong five-plus innings of relief by Will Heiser, Post 334 was beaten 12-8 in eight innings Saturday afternoon at Fitzgerald Stadium by the Merced Volunteers of Califronia.
Heiser took over in the third inning with Post 334 down 7-2 and was granted an 8-7 lead by the fourth inning, which he protected until one out in the seventh. The big righthander was able to get out of hte seventh after giving up a double and triple that enabled Mercedto tie the score and extend the game into extra innings. In the eighth, however, Heiser was replaced by Pat Freese — after the first Merced batter reached base — but the first-year Post 334 pitcher could not find the strike zone and wound up giving up four runs…
Post 334 will now play for seventh place Sunday int the tournament against an opponent to be named later in the day…
