One-run losses ended St. Cloud visit
A pair of single-run losses — 7-6 in extra innings to the Waite Park Silver Stars and 5-4 to Cold Spring — ended Post 334’s experience in the St. Cloud tournament last Saturday (June 20).
Post 334 squandered a 5-1 lead in the game with Waite Park, which put together a 4-run fifth inning off starter Doug Pouliot. Post 334 took a 6-5 lead in the top of the eighth inning thanks to a Josh Jensen sacrifice fly to score Joe Brinda, but a questionable call on a potential double play at second — resulting in no out at either base — opened the door for a 2-run Waite Park winning rally against relief pitcher Will Heiser. Billy Hirschi continued his hot hitting with two hits, while Tony Remund also had a pair of singles and drove in one run.
In the second game of the day, Post 334 was sluggish at the plate and did not give fill-in pitcher Mike Latta, who threw a complete game, any support. A sixth-inning error opened the door for Cold Spring to score twice and break a 3-3 tie. Post 334 countered with a seventh-inning rally, which was started by a Trevor Daniels triple. But one run was all the team could make up in the 5-4 loss — its 11th in 15 games this summer…
