Croal to join Poehler at UM-Crookston
Devin Croal, the leading hitter in 2008 for the Post 334 baseball team, recently signed a letter of institutional intent to attend the Division II UM-Crookston program this coming school year.
Croal, who hit .355 for Post 334, joins former teammate Jake Poehler, who was a starting outfielder with the Crookston team last spring as a freshman. Crookston coach Chris Vito is confident Croal — like Poehler — will step in as an impact starter next spring for the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference season.
Other Post 334 players starting their college baseball careers this fall include:
•Outfielder Cory Miller at Hamline University
•Pitcher Ryan Hable at Hamline University
•Slugger Zac Sather at St. Cloud State University (signed last fall)
•Pitcher Steve ‘Sumo’ Schroer, who will walk on at North Dakota State
Past members of the Post 334 team still involved in college baseball:
•Preston Ghizoni, Kyle Harrison and Kenny Beese at North Dakota State
•Brandon Baumgartner at the University of North Dakota
•Andrew Kinney at Southwest Minnesota State
Ghizoni and Baumgartner came back to the Post 334 team this past season after completing their freshman years at their respective universities. Croal, Hable and pitcher Mike McMahon, who may attempt to walk on at the University of North Dakota, are eligible to return to the Post 334 squad in 2009.
