Post 334 reaches the 10th District tournament for 14th straight summer
A 5-2 victory over Andover Saturday morning (July 26) at Wintercrest West pushed the Post 334 baseball team into the 10th District tournament for the 14th consecutive season.
Cody Beam, who pitched eight-plus innings of strong baseball, then with relief help from Brandon Baumgartner, gained this key victory in the final game of the North Hennepin League playoff series. Beam gave up two runs (only one was earned) on six hits and walked just one batter. He also struck out eight to collect the victory. Baumgartner, who shut out Andover three days earlier in the second round of play, gave up just one hit and struck out two over the final two innings.
Post 334 scored one in the first when Zac Sather singled home Preston Ghizonim, then added three in the third. Ghizoni had a run-scoring double and both Carter Adams and Corey Johnson had run-scoring singles. The team’s fifth run was courtesy of Sather, who launched a lead-off home run over the right field fence in the fifth inning. It was his seventh of the season.
The victory was win No. 29 (against 16 losses) and moved the team into a first round 10th District game July 31 at Braemar.
Records indicate the last time Post 334 has not made the 10th District tournament was the summer season of 1994…
