A 4-for-5 pool finish, but not enough for advancement this year in Classic
Zac Sather belted a team-record three home runs Sunday night (July 13) to lift Post 334 to a 10-8 come-from-behind win over Millard West of Omaha in the final pool game of the Gopher Classic at Braemar.
The victory gave Post 334 a final 4-1 pool record, but it was not enough for advancement because Billings (which beat Post 334) also finished 4-1 and moved on via the tiebreaker. Consequently, Post 334 won’t defend its title in the playoff round that begins July 14 in Bloomington.
Despite that bad news, Sather provided incredible news with his parade of homers. After striking out in the first inning, Sather launched a 2-run homer in the third to tie the score, 3-3. In the fifth he hit a one-0ut solo shot and in the sixth Sather hit what proved to be the game-winning, 3-run homer down the right field foul line. In all, he drove in six runs and for the the tournament Sather had four home runs.
Carter Adams contributed three hits and Billy Hirschi had two hits and drove in two runs. Cody Beam, meantime, scrambled his way on the mound through the seven innings, coming up with big pitches when big pitches were necessary. He finished the game by setting down the last seven Omaha batters he faced.
Post 334 found itself behind 8-3 going into the fifth when Sather’s solo homer made it 8-4. In the sixth, Sather’s 3-run blast was preceded by a five hits and a sacrifice fly that produced three runs and closed the deficit to 8-7…
