Day 2 brought a win and a loss
The second day of Gopher Classic play for the Post 334 baseball team delivered a come-from-behind 4-3 win over Edina, then a 11-0 defeat to the Billings, Montana Royals.
In the win over Edina, the team was down 3-0 going into the top of the seventh when pinch-hitter Steve Schroer lofted a fly to deep one-0ut fly ball to left field that went off the glove of the outfielder for a two-base error. Cory Miller reached on a second error to put runners on the corners and Joe Brinda singled to left to cut Edina’s lead to 3-1.
With two out, Devin Croal was hit by pitch to load the bases and Carter Adams followed with a two-run, game-tying double up the left center field gap. Edina’s third error of the inning allowed Post 334 to score a fourth and what proved to be a game-winning run. This gave relief pitcher Bill Hirschi, who threw the final three innings including a one-two-three seventh, the win.
In the game which followed, the Billings Royals did not give Post 334 any opportunity whatsoever to comeback by jumping out to a 4-0 lead by the third and an 8-0 lead by the fourth. Three more runs in the fifth iced the win 11-0..
