Post 334 was done in by Durango’s perfection on Day 2 of the Firecracker
Post 334 managed six hits and had runners in scoring position three times, but each time was stymied and ultimately frustrated by the Las Vegas Durano Legion team during Day 2 of the Rapid City Firecracker tournament.
The final score was 1-0. Durango scored the game’s only run off Post 334 starter Mike McMahon, who threw a five-hitter, with a lead off double in the second, a bunt, then an infield out.
“In my years of playing and coaching this game, I have never seen a team execute a defensive and pitching game plan as effectively as this Durango team and pitcher did against us today,” said head coach Tom Yelle afterward. “Their coaching staff scouted us for five hours during our two games Tuesday and figured out a way to keep our bats under control, but then, that pitcher had to do the job — which he did — and Durango’s defense had to be solid — which it was. My hats off to that effort because we gave it a great shot on our end…”
