Post 334 advances to Snakepit semis
The Post 334 baseball team claimed back-to-back Saturday (June 21) victories over Bloomington Blue (6-1) and Plover, Wisconsin (7-1) in pool play to qualify for the Snakepit tournament final four in Burnsville.
The team will face Hopkins Legion at 12:30 p.m. Sunday (June 22) in its semifinal round game.
After losing its first preliminary round game to Eagan the night before, Post 334 rode the pitching of lefty Brandon Baumgartner to the 6-1 win over the Bloomington Blue. Baumgarter scattered six hits and struck out eight batters.
The Post 334 runs came here and there, but two came in one of the team’s more exciting moments of the season — an inside-the-park homer by Billy Hirschi in the top of the seventh inning.
In its next game against Plover, Post 334 once again rode strong pitching, this time by righty Sumo Schroer, who scattered four hits and struck out six. Mike McMahon, who pitched a scoreless seventh inning of the first game win over Blue, repeated the effort against Plover with a one-two-three finish.
At the plate Post 334 exploded for four runs in the third inning as Mike Latta, Andy Evans and Zac Sather had three consecutive singles. In the sixth, Post 334 added three more as Cory Miller drove in one with a sacrifice fly and Devin Croal singled home two more…
